ABOUT THE PLYMOUTH BRETHREN CHRISTIAN CHURCH

ABOUT THE PLYMOUTH BRETHREN CHRISTIAN CHURCH

We were established in the early nineteenth century in Plymouth, southern England. We now have a community of over 50,000 members across Australia, New Zealand, Europe, the Americas and UK. In Australia alone, our history spans more than 100 years, and we have more than 15,000 members who gather at more than 80 churches.

We refer to ourselves as the “Brethren” because we are a close tight-knit community of families held together by our shared Christian belief founded on the Holy Bible. That said, just like everyone else, we live alongside people of our faith, other faiths and no faith.

We gather daily in Gospel Halls to pray together and read from the Holy Bible. We also congregate every Sunday in our Gospel Halls to celebrate the Lord’s Supper and to preach the Gospel.

The men and women of the PBCC have shared values of community participation, ownership and decision-making. We actively practice Christianity through service to our family, our Church, and to our local and global communities. Our mutual Christian fellowship is an integral part of our way of life. Together, we are Brethren.

Our church members run and work in many successful businesses.

Many of our members have established and run businesses that make a significant contribution to their community and Australia’s economy more broadly. Globally, Brethren businesses generate a combined turnover of $22bn.  Together these businesses employ more than 55,000 employees, with a fairly even split of half being PBCC members and non-PBCC members. We all pay tax just like anyone else!

We volunteer extensively.

Our Rapid Relief Team volunteers offer a helping hand to emergency services, disadvantaged youth, the homeless and people with a disability, and work alongside churches of all denominations at times of crisis, and to raise money and awareness for good causes.

We preach the word of God.

We street preach to the broader community to enlighten them to eternal salvation, which is available to every man, woman and child.

We educate lifelong, critical and perceptive learners.

Our OneSchool network attracts leading teachers who help develop our girls and boys into lifelong learners, and do so in progressive digital learning environments. Many school alumni go on to work in a family business, but also do technical education or study through distance education at University. We are strongly of the view that you should earn and learn at the same time.

We help businesses set new standards for excellence and growth.

We have set up the Universal Business Team (UBT) to help businesses grow and move forward through exposure to the best experts and leading strategies and technologies. Importantly, all profits from this global business go towards our schools and charity work.
