Students from OneSchool Global’s Orange Campus have raised over $25,000 for Childhood Cancer Research as part of the Write a Book in a Day competition.

Supporting The Kids’ Cancer Project, the Write a Book in a Day competition gathered some 1132 teams of 5-10 students in size, who work together to cover a range of prescribed parameters to write a book.

The teams raise sponsorship funds and donate their finished books to sick children in hospitals around Australia.

OneSchool Global’s Orange campus, attended by families of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, entered four teams in the competition who each individually placed in the top four fundraising teams across the country.

“While it was nice to see our teams finish in the top four, we just hope our $25,000 contribution and the contributions from other teams can make a difference in Childhood Cancer Research,” said Orange Year 10 Student Lara Larsen.

OneSchool Global embraces technology in their physical and digital learning environments, with students regularly participating in classes at other NSW campuses via video conference link.

And, participating in this competition was no different.

“Two of our teams were year 10 English teams from Orange campus, but the other two were teams of students from our online Advanced English program,” said Year 11 Student Dean Dalziel.

“We wrote our book with students participating in the writing process over video conference. We attend classes by video regularly, so this was no different for us,” he said.

The students travelled with Head of Campus, Kristine Christian, to UTS in Sydney to receive their awards on Wednesday 13 November.

“The students really drove this initiative to support The Kids’ Cancer Project and their commitment to support this cause is certainly reflective of our School’s values and ethos,” said Kristine.

The Orange students hope to inspire other OneSchool students from across Australia to take part and raise even further funds in 2020.
